Pagemaker 7

The first step towards attach Adobe PageMaker’s power understands what it does best. Although PageMaker has many powerful word processing and graphics features. Its strength lies in the assembly of text and art, not in their creation.

To get the most out of PageMaker, you’ll need to have the elements of your document already created in other programs. You’ll organize them on your hard drive so that they’re easy to find. Once the parts have been created and group together, you’ll finally launch your page layout program. Only then will you call on PageMaker’s difficult importing and formatting features to do the most rewarding part of creating a publication- the design.

Pagemaker is graphic application used to design pages. It is mostly use at press and screen printing job for designing newspaper, magazines, invitation card, ID card etc.



HOW TO START PAGEMAKER

- Click on Start button.

- Click on Program.

- Click on Adobe.

- Click on Pagemaker 7.0 and again click on Pagemaker 7.0.



PageMaker opens a publication window that contains an empty page centered on the pasteboard.



A. The toolbox includes tools for creating or editing objects. B. Margins appear as dotted or pink lines. C. Page icons show the master pages (L for left, and R for Right) and the regular pages in the publication. D. Rulers help you align objects on the page. E. The Colors and Styles palettes are used to add, delete, and edit colors and styles. F. The pasteboard stores items for later use. G. The Control palette provides commands for making precise changes to text and graphics.





The icons in the toolbox represent the tools you use in PageMaker. To select a tool, click it.

A. Use the pointer tool to select, move, and resize text objects and graphics. B. Use the rotating tool to select and rotate objects. C. Use the line tool to draw straight lines in any direction. D. Use the rectangle tool to draw squares and rectangles. E. Use the ellipse tool to draw circles and ellipses. F. Use the polygon tool to draw polygons. G. Use the hand tool to scroll the page, or to preview and test hyperlinks. H. Use the text tool to type, select, and edit text. Click or drag the text tool outside an existing text object on the page or pasteboard, and then type I. Use the cropping tool to trim imported graphics. J. Use the constrained line tool to draw vertical or horizontal lines.

K. Frame Tool : Use the frame tools to create placeholder shapes.



L. Zoom Tool : Use the zoom tool to magnify or reduce an area of the page.





To make triangle

- Double click Polygon tool. (Element Menu-Polygon setting)

- Set value zero on Star inset

- Set value 3 on No. of sides.



To make star

- Double click Polygon tool. (Element Menu-Polygon setting)

- Set value on Star inset (30)

- Set value on No. of sides. (15)

Zero Luck

The default position of the zero point is at the upper left corner of single pages and the upper touching corner of two page spreads.

For Zero Luck drag the pointer from the top left corner of the ruler at desire place.

To attach a text block to a frame:

1 Select a text block, hold down Shift, and then select an empty frame.

2 Choose Element > Frame > Attach Content. The text flows into the frame and the text block disappears.

Frame option

- Double click frame tool (appear frame option)

- set the inset.(Top, Buttom, Left, Right)/ horizontal alignment/verticle alignment

- Viewing Page

You can use the zoom tool to specify an area of the page to view, and increase or decrease its magnification at the same time.

View settings serve various purposes. Use Fit in Window when you need to check the overall composition of a page or a two-page spread; use Actual Size to see text and graphics as they will appear when printed; and choose View > Zoom To > 200% Size or 400% Size when precision is imperative. To find or view objects on the pasteboard, use Entire Pasteboard.

To move to the next greater or lesser preset view of a page, choose View > Zoom In or View > Zoom Out.

To magnify part of a page by dragging:

1 Select the zoom tool.

2 Drag to draw a marquee around the area you want to magnify



File Menu

New – (Ctrl + N)to open new Pagemaker publication

- Click on File Menu

- Click on New

- Select the page size, dimension, orientation, Option(double sideded/facing sided), No. of pages, page numbering style in number, top, buttom, inside, outside margin.

- Click on OK.



Open – (Ctrl +O) to open previously saved publication

- Click on File Menu

- Click on Open

- Choose the drive or folder in look in drop down and then select the desire file

- Click on Open.

Recent Publication to open recently used publication. It lists the last 8 Pagemaker publication that opened and saved.

- Click on File Menu

- Click on Recent Publication

- Choose the desire Publiation

Close (Ctrl+W) to close currently opened publication

- Click on File Menu

- Click on Close.

Save(Ctrl+S) to save/store the publication

- Click on File Menu

- Click on Save

- Choose the drive or folder in look in drop down and then select the desire file

- Click on Save.

Save As (Ctrl+Shift+S)to save the current publication, or to make duplicate and setting the template with copy option.Lets rename and save to different disk or folder. It also compresses file, making its size as small as possible.

- Click on File Menu

- Click on Save As

- Choose the drive or folder in look in drop down and then select the desire file

- Click on Save.

Revert it bring back to last saved effect.

- Click on File Menu

- Click on Revert.

Place – (Ctrl+D) Imports text, graphics and spreadsheet or database file into active publication. (To place Nepali font “convert quotes” take off the tick mark).

- Click on File Menu

- Click on Place

- Choose the drive or folder in look in drop down and then select the desire file.(to place image select the file with extension .jpg, .gif. etc.)

- Click on Open.

to place image The options available in the Place Document dialog box depend on whether you select a text, spreadsheet, database, or graphics file to place, and whether you have an object or frame selected in layout view when you choose File > Place. The dialog box displays files whose extensions (Windows) or formats (Mac OS) PageMaker recognizes as compatible.

Acquire: To import/insert image from scanner.

Export: For creating new files from within a publication to PDF, HTML, Graphic.

- Select the Graphic/Object

- Click on File Menu

- Click on Export

- Click on Graphic

- Choose the drive or folder. Type the file name and choose file type.

- Click on Save.

Link Manager: Lets view link option and Link info of files in active publication.

- Click on File Menu

- Click on Link Manager

- Click on Link info

- Click on OK.

Printer Style: To define printer style.

Print: To Print, printing option available depend on the printer that is using. (copies, page range, printer, orientation, print option.)

- Click on File Menu

- Click on Print

- Give Page range, no. of copies, orientation etc.

- Click on Print.

Document Setup: (ctrl +Shift +P) To change setting for a publication, such as page size, margin, no. of page, page numbering.

- Click on File Menu

- Click on Document Setup.

- Select the page size, dimension, orientation, Option(double sideded/facing sided), No. of pages, page numbering style in number, top, buttom, inside, outside margin.

- Click on OK.

Preference>General:( Ctrl+K) It is use to change the measurement of ruler (Horizontal and verticle ruler).

In Layout Problem tick On/Off in “show loose/tight lines.”

In More Preference dialog box

- Text- tick On/Off in “Turn Page when auto flowing”, “Text typographer’s quotes”

- Story editor- Change font name, font size.

In Map Fonts dialog box

- tick On/Off “Allow font matching”, “Show mapping result”. You can also change font name in “Default Font”







Edit Menu: Undo (Ctrl+Z)

Cut (Ctrl+X)

Copy(Ctrl+C)

Paste(Ctrl+v)

Clear(Del)

Select All(Ctrl+A)

Deselect All

Paste Special: It is use to paste in special case in special formal like Rich Text Format, Bitmap format, window metafile, microsoft word document object etc.

- copy object from other application like word art from Microsoft Word

- click on Edit Menu

- Click on paste special

- select enhanced metafile

- click on OK



Paste Multiple: Lets you duplicate, selected objects by specifying the numbers of copies needed and their numerical offset from original objects (like horizontal/verticle offset)

- Select the object

- Click on Edit Menu

- Click on Copy

- Again click on Edit Menu

- Click on Paste Multiple

- Give the no. of requires copies.

- Set the horizontal and verticle offset



Insert Objects: Lets you launch other program like Adobe Table 3.0, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel etc.

- Click on Edit Menu

- Click on Insert Objects

- Click on desired program

- Do as required and then close the program.



Edit Story: Opens the story editor to show the story currently selected or open a new story window if no text is selected.

- Click on Edit Menu

- Click on Edit Story



Utilities>Change> Locates and replace specified text, characters or formating (font, size so on) in the selected text, in an entire stroy. (Available only in story view).

- Click on Edit Menu

- Click on Edit Story

- Click on Utilities Menu

- Click on Change

- Type the text that is to be changed in Find what box

- Type the desired text in the change to box.



Utilities>Find/Find Next:To find the desired word. (Available only in story view).

- Click on Edit Menu

- Click on Edit Story

- Click on Utilities Menu

- Click on Find

- Type the text that is to be changed in Find what box



Utilities>Spelling> Checks and lets to correct spelling and basic gramatical error. (Available only in story view)

- Click on Edit Menu

- Click on Edit Story

- Click on Utilities Menu

- Click on Spelling

- Click on Start

- Change the spelling as required.



Edit Original:

To open original application of the selected placed file(graphic).

- Select the placed object/image or file

- Click on edit Menu

- Click on Edit Original (application Name>Edit)

- Make any change required

- close the application



Layout Menu

Go to Page: Turns to another page/master page in the active publication.

- Click on Layout Menu

- Click on Go to Page.

- Give the no. of pages in the Page Number Box.



Insert Page: Lets you add pages to a publication before or after the current page or insert new page between two facing pages and specifies the master applied to new page (Set left and right pages separately)

- Click on Layout Menu

- Click on Insert Page. (select BEFORE OR AFTER)

- Give the no. of pages in the Page Number Box.



Remove Page: Deletes the designated range of pages in a publication including the text and graphic on those pages.

- Click on Layout Menu

- Click on Remove Page

- Give the no. of pages in remove pages and through box

- Click on Ok



Sort Page: Lets you move pages from one position to another in the active publication by arranging thumbnail representators of your pages in the page order you want. pagemaker then reorder and renumbers pages based on the changes.

- Click on Layout Menu

- Click on Sort Page

- Drag the Page icon at the required position.



Column Guide :Specifies the no. of columns and the amount of space between the columns on the page.

- Click on Layout Menu

- Click on Column Guide

- Give the no. of column. You can also set the left and right pages separately.



Go Back: It will show the previous page that you have gone previously.



Go Forward: It will show the page the next you have gone.



Auto Flow: When this option is checked or tick marked, text flows into available columns until there is no more text to place. Pages are added to the end of publication if neccessary. Switch between manual and automatic flow by pressing Ctrl while text is flowing.



Type Menu

Font:It lets to select the font for a selected range of text

- Select the range of text.

- Click on Type Menu

- Click on Font

- Select the desire font



Size: It lets to specify text font size in points for a selected range of text.

- Select the range of text.

- Click on Type Menu

- Click on Size

- Select the desire font size. OR Use Other command to specify text font size from 4 to 650 points in 0.1 point increments.



Leading: It sets the space, measured in points between consecutive lines of types. - Select the range of text.

- Click on Type Menu

- Click on Leading

- Select the desire leading OR Use Other command to set leading values ranging from 0-1300 points.



Type Style: It lets to set the style for a selected range of text or the next text you type.

- Select the range of text.

- Click on Type Menu

- Click on type style

- Select the desire style like Normal, Bold, Underline, strikethru etc.

Expert Kerning: Allows you to apply size dependent letter spacing over a range of text instead of adjusting the spacing between pairs of letter.Tracking and kerning are both measured in relative units—that is, units that are based on the point size of the type. Tracking adjusts the relative space between characters so that it gets slightly tighter at large sizes and slightly looser at small sizes. Kerning is strictly proportional, since the em—the unit that kerning is based on—gets bigger or smaller at the same rate as the characters. The proportions between characters are always the same.

Expert Tracking: It is use to contract the space between the character.

- Select the range of text.

- Click on Type Menu

- Click on Expert Tracking

- Select the desire track like Normal, Tight, very tight, loose, very loose, no track.



Horizontal Scale: It lets you control the proportional width of characters for a selected range of text.

- Select the range of text.

- Click on Type Menu

- Click on Horizontal Scale

- Select the desire percentage



Character: (Ctrl + T) From this option you can change font, font size, leading, horizontal scale, position, case, track, color, tint, type style etc.

- Select the range of text.

- Click on Type Menu

- Click on Character

- Select the desire font, size, leading style etc.



Paragraph:(Ctrl+M) Paragraph attributes specify how your paragraph appear in the page, including alignment, position of indents and the amount of space before and after the paragraph.

- Select the range of text.

- Click on Type Menu

- Click on Paragraph

- Select the desire paragraph space like after/before, paragraph indent: left/first/right, alignment; center, justify, left, right, etc.



Indent/Tab: (Ctrl +I) It is use to set the left and right indents, the first line indent and set the tabs on the scale by dragging mouse pointer for the selected range of text.

- Select the range of text.

- Click on Type Menu

- Click on Indents/Tab

- Set the position of tab left or right or center or decimal. (in ruler), set the ruler

- Click on apply to see preview and click on OK.



Hyphenation: To set the hypen mark/line in the last position of breakword.

- select text paragraph

- select the type Menu

- select the hyphonation

- tick on On

- click on Okk.



Alignment: It allows to change the alignment of text. Choose any alignment to align left, align center, align right, align justify and force justify.

- Select the range of text.

- Click on Type Menu

- Click on Alignment (Choose any alignment)

Style: (Ctrl+B) It lets you to apply styles already defined in the style palette on the paragraph level.

- Select the range of text.

- Click on Type Menu

- Click on Style

- Choose desire style like Headline, Subhead1, Subhead2, body text etc.

Define Style:(CTrl+3) It is use to create and edit paragraph styles like body text, headline, subhead1, subhead2.

- Select the range of text.

- Click on Type Menu

- Click on Define Style (a dialog box appears)

- Click on New

- Give the style name and format character, paragraph etc as required.

- OR Select the style name and click on edit or click remove as required.



Element Menu

Fill: It lets you to specify a pattern when drawing a rectangle, ellipse or polygon.

- Select the object.

- Click on Element Menu.

- Click on Fill.

- Click on desired pattern.

Stroke: It specifies the line weight and style for the rectangle, ellipse or polygon tool. You can specify other line weights in one-tenth of a point increaments upto 800 point.

- Select the object.

- Click on Element Menu.

- Click on Stroke.

- Click on desired stroke style and weight.

Fill and Stroke: It sets the fill and stroke attributes for a selected objects including wheather the fill or stroke overprint or knocks out objects in the background.

- Select the object.

- Click on Element Menu.

- Click on Fill and Stroke.

- Click on desired fill pattern, color or choose stoke style and color. And Click on OK.

Frame: It is use to attach text and graphics to a frame, set attributes for frame and other objects.

- Select the object.

- Click on Element Menu.

- Click on Frame.

- Click on frame option and set available option like verticle/horizontal alignment and inset. And Click OK.

Arrange:

- Bring to Front:(Ctrl+shift+]) It moves the selected object to the front of any overlapping objects.

- Bring Forward: (Ctrl +]) It moves the selected object up one level of overlapping objects.

- Send to back : (Ctrl+shift+[ )It moves the selected object to the back of any overlapping objects.

- Send backward: (Ctrl +[ ) It moves the selected object up one level of any overlapping objects.

- Select the range of text..

- Click on Element Menu.

- Click on Arrange.

- Click on any one option.



Align Objects: (ctrl + Shift +E) It lets to align selected objects in relation to each other then evenly distribute them.

- Select two or more object.

- Click on Element Menu.

- Click on Align Object.

- Choose desire Align and distribute. And Click on OK.



Text Wrap: (Ctrl+Alt+E) It lets you determine how text flows when it encounters a graphic objects. Text interacts with a graphic objects in three ways; it can cover the graphic object, wrap around the sides of a rectangular shape or wrap around the side of an irregular shape.

- Select the object.

- Click on Element Menu.

- Click on Text Wrap.

- Click on desired wrap option and set stahdoff in inches. And Click on OK.

(Note: to wrap irregular shape make nodes on dotted line by clicking and drag it at required position).



Group: (Ctrl+G) To combine one or more selected objects into a group so that the objects are treated as a unit.

- Select the objects.

- Click on Element Menu.

- Click on Group.

Ungroup:(Ctrl+Shift+G) Separate grouped objects into constituent object. The objects retain the changes made while the objects were grouped.

- Select the grouped object.

- Click on Element Menu.

- Click on Ungroup.

Lock Position:(Ctrl+L) It do not let the object to move.

- Select the object.

- Click on Element Menu.

- Click on Lock Position.

Unlock:(Ctrl+Shift+L) Undoes lock position command, allow movement to selected locked objects.

- Select the locked object.

- Click on Element Menu.

- Click on Unlock.

Mask: It is use for masking. To make visible only the overlapped part of object/image by top object.

- Draw the object area over the required part of other object/image which is to be mask

- Select both object by pressing Shift key

- Click on Element Menu.

- Click on Mask



To mask Text

- Type the text

- Make copy of it

- Change its color as required

- Draw rectangle/oval as required over the text

- Select both text box and object pressing Shift key

- Click on Element Menu

- Click on Mask

- Now drag the first text box below the masked object.

- Now you may group.

Unmask: It is use to unmask. Or use to remove the object/image from the masked object.

- Select the masked object.

- Click on Element Menu.

- Click on Unmask..



Image>Photoshop effects:It is use to give the Photoshop effect in the graphic saved in .tiff extension. OR if the graphic is not in tiff, then use Graphic Command of Export Option of File Menu and change it to tiff extension.

- Select the graphic that is in tiff extension.

- Click on Element Menu.

- Click on Image and click on Photoshop effects.

- Choose desire Photoshop effect.

- Set the option.

- Click on OK.>OK



Polygon settings: It lets to change the shape of polygon that is selected. You can change the number of sides (up to 100) and the degree to which the sides are inset to form a star.

Unavailable if the selected objects is not a polygon drawn in PageMaker.

- Select the polygon object.

- Click on Element Menu.

- Click on Polygon setting.

- Set the number of side and star inset

- Click on Ok.



Rounded Corner: It lets to select the shape of corner of selected box. Unavailable if the selected objects is not a polygon drawn in PageMaker.

- Select the object.

- Click on Element Menu.

- Click on Rounded Corner.

- Click on desired Corner style and click on OK.



Link Info:Lets view Link info of files in active publication.

- Click on Element Menu

- Click on Link Info.

OR to change the file select the required one

- click on open.



Non Printing: To set non printing to the object/text box

- select the object to be non printing.

- click on Element menu

- Click on Non Printing



Utilities Menu

Plug-ins: Displays a list of installed Page Maker Plug-ins.

Balance Column: It is use to balance the different column.

- Select the required number of column (text area).

- Click on Utilities Menu.

- Select the Plug-in and Click on Balance Column.

- Choose desire alignment and add leftover lines and Click on OK.

Bullets and Numbering: Use to insert Bullets & Numbering in current publication.(You have to select the range of text for applying bullet & numbering.

- Select the required paragraph.

- Click on Utilities Menu.

- Select the Plug-in and Click on Bullet and Numbering.

- Select the desired bullet and Click on OK

OR

- To change bullet click on Edit Tab button

- select required symbol from required font

- Click on OK

OR

Click on Number Tab and select the desried number style and Click on OK.



Change Case: To change the publication text in selected case format. (lower case/ UPPER CASE/ Title Case/ Sentence case/ tOGGLE cASE)

- Select the required text range.

- Click on Utilities Menu.

- Select the Plug-in and Click on Change Case.

- Choose desire case and Click on OK.



Drop Cap: To formatting publication in selected cap format. It is use to drop the letter.

- Select the required text of paragraph.

- Click on Utilities Menu.

- Select the Plug-in and Click on Drop Cap..

- set the drop lines and Click on OK.



To create color library:

- Click on Utilities Menu

- Select Plug-ins and then click Create Color Library.

- Type the library name

- Click on Save,

- Select your library name and choose any one color then set the color mixture and click on OK.

Book: Compiles two or more Page Maker Publication into a book and creates a book list of the names of the publication. You can compile an index and table of contents from all the publication in the book and print all booked publications at once.



Word Counter: It is use to know about the number of words (paragraph/sentenceetc.) typed

- Select the required column (text area).

- Click on Utilities Menu.

- Select the Plug-in and Click on Word Counter.

- Click on close.



Index Entry: Opens a dialog box to define an index entry at the insertion point. Unavailable if no text or insertion point is selected.

- Select the text range.

- Click on Utilities Menu.

- Click on Index Entry.

- Click on Add and Click on Ok.

Show Index: Displays all index entris throughout the publication or book for review and editing. To view entries for just the current publication in a book, press Shift while you choose this command.

- Click on Utilities Menu.

- Click on Show Index.

- Click on Ok.

Create Index: It is use to create the index.

- Click on Utilities Menu.

- Click on Create Index.

- Click on Ok.

Create TOC: It is use to create the Table of Content.

- First give the style to the title of paragraph. (like headline, subhead1, subhead2 eetc)

- Click on Utilities Menu.

- Click on Create TOC.

- Give the title and Click on OK.

Define Colors: Allow to create and edit custom colors that you can apply to text or graphic objects. You can also import colors from industry standard and custom color libraries.

- Click on Utilities Menu.

- Click on Define Color.

- Click on New.

- Give the name and set the color

- Click on OK.



View Menu

Display Master Item: To Make master page objects all visible or all invisible on a page tick on/off.

- Click on View Menu.

- Click on/off on Display Master Item

Display Non Printing Item: To Make non printing objects all visible or all invisible on a page tick on/off.

- Click on View Menu.

- Click on/off on Display Non Printing Items.

Show/Hide Scroll: To show or hide the scroll bars.

- Click on View Menu.

- Click on show scroll bars to show and to hide click again.

Show/Hide Ruler: To show or hide the ruler.

- Click on View Menu.

- Click on show ruler to show OR to hide click again.

Show/Hide Guide: Show or hide the guide line.

- Click on View Menu.

- Click on show guide to show OR to hide click again.

Lock Guides: It helps not to move the guide line..

- Click on View Menu.

- Click once on lock guides to lock and to unlock take off the tick mark.

Bring guides to front/Sent guides to back: It is use to bring guide lines to front or to sent the back of the object

- Click on View Menu.

- Click once on bring guides to front OR click again to sent guides to back..



Clear Ruler guide: It is use to delete the guide line used.

- Click on View Menu

- Click on Clear Ruler Guide.



Window Menu

Tile: It will show all the open publication window side by side

- Click on Window Menu.

- Click on Tile.



Cascade: It will show all the open publication window one over another showing title bar.

- Click on Window Menu.

- Click on Cascade.

Show/Hide tool: Displays or hide the floating palette from which you select Page Maker’s drawing and editing tools.

- Click on Window Menu.

- Click once on Hide tool to hide the toolbox and then to show click on show tool.



Show/Hide Control Palette:Displays or hide the floating palette from which we can change character option (font name, size, leading, tracking, bold, reverse, alignment etc.) paragraph option.

- Click on Window Menu.

- Click once on Hide control palette to hide the control palette and then to show click on show control palette.



Show/Hide master page: Displays or hides master page palette for changing master page style.

- Click on Window Menu.

- Click once on Hide master page to hide the master page and then to show click on show master page.

- Then click on new icon and change the master page format.

To Insert Header OR Footer

- click on master page icon

- At required drag text box then type the text use for header OR footer

- Process same in both page

- Now the text appear in our regular page



To insert Page Number

- click on master page icon

- At required area drag text box then press

Ctrl + Alt + C

- Process same in both page

- Now the page number appear in our regular page





Show/Hide color palette: Displays or hide palettes which list the defined colors, imported ERS color, and default colors in the active publication. Click a color to apply it to the selected object/text. you can control -whether you color the stroke or fill for a selected object.

- Click on Window Menu.

- Click once on Hide color palette to hide the color palette and then to show click on show color palette.

- Then click on new icon of the palette and change or set the color, give the name and click on OK.



Show/Hide Style Palette: It is use to give or create the paragraph styles like body text, headline, subhead1, subhead2.

- Click on Window Menu.

- Click once on Hide style palette to hide the style palette and then to show click on show style palette.

- Click on New icon of the palette.

- Give the style name and format character, paragraph etc as required.

- OR Double click the style name and change the format as required.

Show/Hide Layer palette: Displays or hides layer palette for working with layer.

- Click on Window Menu.

- Click once on Hide layer to hide the layer and then to show click on show layer.

- Then click on new icon and work in new layer.



Plug-in Palette> Show Library: It is use to open or hide the library palette where we can store graphic/text.

- Click on Window Menu.

- Select on Plug-in Palette and click on Show Library.

- Select the required object/graphic/text area and click on add (+ sign) in the library palette.

- If needed drag the required one.
